Cubic metre is a unit used to measure volume. Sometimes people spell it ‘cubic meter’—however, the unit is correctly spelled ‘cubic metre’ here in Australia. Either way, we’re using both versions in this article to help you find it easily when searching for advice or a Cubic Meter Calculator.
One cubic metre (1 m³) is a cube that has all sides 1 metre long. When it comes to moving boxes, as you can see in the illustration, it takes about 8 mid- to large-sized moving boxes to make up a cubic metre. And no, they don’t have to be in the shape of a cube! Even if you line them up side by side, they’ll still add up to one cubic metre.
So how do you calculate the m³ of your furniture? Use our Cubic Meter Calculator – just click the button or read on for more details.
You need to measure all three dimensions of your item: length (L), width (W), and height (H). Then, use a Cubic Meter Calculator to multiply these values and calculate the total volume in cubic metres:
Item volume (m³) = L × W × H.
Ensure that you use the correct units for the initial measurements and always convert them to meters to obtain an accurate result in cubic meters (m³). For example, if the depth of your fridge is 64 cm, use 0.64 m in the calculation.
